Municipality of Mamer – Pilot in the use of energy accounting

17-05-21 | ENERGETIC EFFICIENCY, NEW PROJECTS

Consumption under the magnifying glass

It is not always easy to have a precise vision of your consumption of water, gas, electricity or even pellets, especially for municipalities that manage dozens of buildings with their own specificities. Vigilance is required at all times so as to avoid a hefty bill at the end of the year.

Based on this observation, and the willingness to be proactive, the municipality of Mamer has implemented an extremely efficient energy accounting. Laurent Majerus, Head of the Environment, Energy and Mobility Department, is behind this initiative.

“If we add up the water leaks, however small, the faulty electricity meters or the poor insulation, the municipality spends a substantial sum which could easily be saved and reinvested in new municipal projects. In 2020, we looked for an energy accounting program, corresponding to the size of our three entities and that allows us to have an overall view of our expenses. »

The authorities opted for the AREE program, first in Luxembourg and Laurent. Majerus absolutely does not regret this choice, he says “It’s an incredible time and money saver! Thanks to the progressive automation of the meters, we are now able to very quickly intervene when a problem arises something that in the past, might have been detected after several months. At the start of the project, we could only count on about ten automatic counters. The other readings were taken by us. I think that at the end of 2021, we will be able to count 400 meters! “. The objective is for 80% of the meters to be read automatically.
